Our Shanghai office opened in 2009 to further strengthen our capabilities in China, Asia-Pacific and worldwide. It now features a team of 9 attorneys, along with other legal professionals, who are well-versed in domestic and international legal issues and fluent in English and Mandarin. Our highly regarded dispute resolution, government and internal investigations team combines their on-the-ground experience in Asia with the resources of Westwyn attorneys globally — including former senior U.S. and U.K. government officials. Attorneys in the office also handle a full spectrum of complex, cross-border corporate, M&A, private equity and capital markets transactions.

We practise in Shanghai through a branch office of Westwyn International LLP. Westwyn & Ellis International LLP is a Delaware limited liability partnership (partnership no 3727042) and operates as a limited liability partnership outside the United States.

Westwyn International LLP is licensed to operate as a foreign law firm in China by the Ministry of Justice. Under Ministry of Justice regulations, foreign law firms in China are permitted, amongst other things, to provide consultancy services on non-Chinese law and on international conventions and practices, and to provide information on the impact of the Chinese legal environment. Under the same regulations, foreign law firms in China are not permitted to conduct Chinese legal affairs, including rendering legal opinions upon Chinese law.
